For the 5th year Marriage Equality NY presents: The Wedding March.

For the 1st time, we are not only crossing the Brooklyn bridge in New York State but we also have our Albany chapter crossing bridges in their community to further spread the word.

For the 2nd time, we have our sister organization Marriage Equality USA crossing the Golden Gate bridge, standing in solidarity with New York State and celebrating the recent decision making California the 2nd state in the union to have marriage equality for the GLBT community.

It all started when, Marriage Equality NY (MENY) held a meeting at the GLBT Community Center in NYC and asked activists what action would send a message to neighbors, colleagues, friends, politicians, and local business owners? An overwhelming response came when it was suggested that we organize a march across the Brooklyn Bridge. These activists said that it gives us the opportunity to stand in solidarity around this civil marriage right's issue and hope of bridging the gap in the inequality. With MENY's organizational mission being to organize the community in an effort to build awareness and educate New Yorkers on why marriage matters, the role of us leading the march was a natural fit.

And, as mentioned before, NYC's Wedding March celebrates its 5th Anniversary of crossing the bridge with a clear mission to bring marriage equality about in New York State!
